CIOU Jin-Ping’s artistic inspirations come from the ironworks owned and operated by her father for the last 20 years. In Ironworks’ Story Ⅲ-01／02, CIOU Jin-Ping used a horizontal perspective to capture the external appearance of the factory, detailing its moments from its existence to its imminent dismantling. The ironworks rusty and patched skin metaphorically describes the years and challenges her father had endured. The decayed and broken appearances of the factory hint at the government’s acquisition and dismantling of the plant, creating a sense of loss and deprivation. CIOU Jin-Ping used iron as a media to illustrate her memories of home, giving cold hard steel a sense of longing and warmth that one can hardly leave behind.
