The creative elements of CHIU Chin-Ping’s Flashback of Old Era IV are based upon photographs of her father’s iron factory, a work that represents an attempt to resurrect the spirit and memories of a time long gone. The texture of iron may be cold, but they represent a sense of warmth relating to her family’s history. Six continuous panels were used to illustrate images of mechanical mills and equipment, machineries that were once part of her life but are now smothered by overlapping rust-like patches like flowing time and memories of the good old days. By reinterpreting her family’s old ironworks, CHIU Chin-Ping’s artworks evoke collective memories and dreams, conveying the lasting essences imbued within various historical artifacts.
