SHEU Jer-Yu uses photographs to capture fleeting moments and scenes from everyday life to invoke viewers to think about space, symbols, images, and truth. Floating #Watchroom is a long-exposure shot of a monitoring room furnished with a large number of surveillance monitor screens. The screens are completely white due to over-exposure, and are thus transformed into light-emitting night lamps that are then contrasted against the empty tables like a surreal dreamscape. Various monitors and displays have occupied our lives, becoming vectors that provide videos and entertainment while replacing the central hearth of many living rooms or windows for receiving sunlight. SHEU Jer-Yu uses videos to create abstract spaces of dark boxes where viewers can imagine themselves to be, thereby disclosing the functional detachment of the modern world and technological advancements.
