HSU Che-Yu’s artworks are related to the fields of painting, video recording, and spatial design, and often explore the process of artistic composition and observation. In Shooting the Dream from Last Night, the grass hides numerous clones of the protagonist being drowned by swarming and grasping hands. Surveillance systems and cameras have been established between the clones, hinting at the photographer’s worst nightmare. Cameras serve as tools for gathering newsworthy materials and information, while surveillance systems peek at personal secrets and invade privacy. Events that relate to personal memory, no matter how protected, could always be found on the news. HSU Che-Yu uses this metaphorical artwork as an attempt to reflect upon and study personal memory and memory in community.
