HSU Che-Yu’s artworks are related to the fields of painting, video recording, and spatial design, and often explore the process of artistic composition and observation. Mirroring Selfie shows 3 men at different angles trying to hide in the bushes while performing the same action of using their camera to focus on a particular object. The resulting composition is a strange arrangement where the 3 men are photographing each other, and are both the subject and photographer at the same time. Cameras are important tools for capturing images and memories, and photographs serve as important evidences to reveal the truth. Hidden behind the camera and images are mutual and structural relationships between observers, photographers, and subjects. HSU Che-Yu uses this metaphorical artwork as an attempt to reflect upon and study the nature of falsehood and truth.
