HSU Che-Yu’s artworks are related to the fields of painting, video recording, and spatial design, and often explore the process of artistic composition and observation. I Had a Friend Who Died in the Bathroom is based upon the Taiwanese author HUANG Kuo-Chun who wrote a story where he described his suicidal intent to his mother. Strangely, he left behind no will when he actually committed suicide two months later. The fictional parts of his artwork could be linked to the realities of his life, yet the parts that remained a mystery are what HSU Che-Yu focused on. This composition is filled with analogies and metaphors, and serves as a means to investigate elements of the virtual world and reality.
