LIN Yu-Ting is skilled in using the soft and moldable nature of butter clay, transforming cakes that resemble familiar buildings. Residence shows 16 slices of cake that were stacked neatly with each other to recreate a neighborhood of town houses typically observed in Taiwan, complete with decorations that include water towers, extra floors constructed using corrugated metal sheets, hanging balconies, and iron grated windows. LIN Yu-Ting has built connections between sight and taste to create the sweet coziness of homes that viewers can reminisce about and document the footprints of urban renewal and evolution. These artworks also highlight the mutual dependence between people and construction as well as between residences and their abodes.
