LIN Yu-Ting enjoys simulating the shape of cakes in her works. Night Community depicts a chocolate cake that have been cut away to reveal highly realistic human residences contained within. The spongy interior textures of the cake has been converted to a patchy brick-lined walls, while chocolate cream coats the rooftop constructions of one of these constructs. LIN Yu-Ting has concealed familiar urban sights within the cake’s sweet-looking exterior in her uniquely clever way of integrating realistic scenes, smells, and flavors, projecting sensational memories upon her cake house and concealing housing units within. This combination of house and cake acts as a metaphor between realities of life and sweet experiences, pointing towards the subtle relationships between the two and hinting at the potentials of contrasting textures.
