The Old Apartment

Artist LIN Yu-Ting was born in Tainan. It is easy to spot the houses and apartments in her hometown. Layers of stacking and varying grille form a special Façade design and also become the inspiration for her creativity. Lin started creating “Cake House” series in 2010. She uses “cream clay” for the soft and easy-forming characteristics, turning familiar building shapes into cake models. This work “The Old Apartment ” is one of the series, where the artist tactfully turns the grille into icing decoration on the cream and the mottled walls as the cracks of sponge cake. The visual pleasure and imaginary taste brought by the cake model is used to convey the warm and pleasant image of “Home.” The combination of house and cake recalls our old, beautiful memories from home.
