CHEN Hung-Chun’s Floating Island III is an assembly of 2 hexagonal frames that shows an isolated island in the sea being split in two and pried apart to expose its cross-section, where the island also serves as a projection of personal realities and conditions. The dirt and rock-covered island are natural elements that contrast against the artificiality of the smooth cross-section, while the surrounding seas serve as a metaphor for uncertainty. Finally, the cross-section serves as a symbol for inner truths hidden by external appearances. CHEN Hung-Chun hopes that this island could be treated as a means to measure personal orientations and identify future directions in life.
