In Floating Island I, artist CHEN Hong-Cyun’s abstracts the ocean into a blue-toned cube. He allows some of the paint to drip naturally, building a sense of motion into the scene. At the top of the cube is a lone island floating on the surface of the ocean. This is Chen’s mental projection of his own circumstances. The numbers and English words symbolize a measure of self-position, placed there with the hope of finding his own position and direction from it.
