The subject matter for HUANG Mei-Yun’s painting comes primarily from her observations of daily life, for she believes the most beautiful things are often those found right next to us. The surroundings of our hometown, potted plants in our courtyard—these familiar scenes are tightly bound up with our memories and contain within them the philosophy and our feelings about life itself. In her work Brewing, there is a cluster of smallfolwer beggarticks getting withered in the image. The bright color of the root indicates the power of life. The phenomena of “withering” and “regeneration” are paralleled in the same plane. The grass indicates a small element in the nature. It has the same destiny with human beings. Life goes on and on with the turnover of seasons. The death of smallfolwer beggarticks enables the tenacity of the weeds. The regenerating life at its root maintains the permanency of life.
