作品賞析
The subject matter for HUANG Mei-Yun’s painting comes primarily from her observations of daily life, for she believes the most beautiful things are often those found right next to us. The surroundings of our hometown, potted plants in our courtyard—these familiar scenes are tightly bound up with our memories and contain within them the philosophy and our feelings about life itself. HUANG’S painting, Spreading, uses the water cabbage to symbolize life yet does not directly depict the flower, rather it covers the canvass with a mass of deep blue color, ice-cold and mysterious, while the water cabbage grow in the water giving evidence of a quiet life force. HUANG Mei-Yun’s water cabbage represent an attitude toward life—although outwardly things may be hard and indifferent yet internally one strives toward the ideal and life, displaying a powerful tenacity. In addition, the painting cleverly incorporates the subdued characteristic of the eastern gouache style to raise the notion of life’s malleability to an aesthetic level.
