Artwork Appreciation
YANG Shun-Fa has long been concerned with ecological and environmental issues. The work, The Submerged Beauty of Formosa-Oucuo Beach, Kinmen County, is inspired by a photo from a tourist that he accidentally saw on the Internet when he was looking for a shooting location for the series “The Submerged Beauty of Formosa”. He used Google to find the correct location and went to shoot. An abandoned tank sunk deep into the beach. It is unknown why it is here and no unit has come to clean up. YANG Shun-Fa believes that the existence of the tank seems to reflect the unsolvable problem that Taiwan has with the other side of the Taiwan Straits, as well as the dilemma that Taiwan is facing internationally. In addition, the massive development and dredging of the mainland’s Xiamen Port, which leads to the changing geography and shrinking of the Kinmen coastline, are also witnessed.
