Artwork Appreciation
For three years, YANG Shun-Fa observed the ecological and environmental issues faced by the coastal areas in Central and Southern Taiwan through photographic filming. In the work, The Submerged Beauty of Formosa-Xinyi Village, Fangyuan Township, Changhua County, the artist patiently waits for the sea to ebb before walking into the shooting location. A few cement columns are mysteriously placed here. No one remembers what they used to look like, and no related records can be found. It is like the ruins of the Roman temple, standing here day and night and becoming an eyewitness for man-made disasters and the destruction of the natural environment. YANG Shun-Fa presents a poetic scenery in a form of an ellipse, much like a classical literati painting. However, this picturesque scenery is actually the tragic situation after the destruction of land.
