Artwork Appreciation
When YANG Shun-Fa saw buildings submerged in the water, he was deeply affected and created the series “Submerged Taiwan” to express his concern for the environment. In Beimen Dist., Tainan 23°17'49.5"N 120°08'27.6"E, the temple, trees and power poles are all in the water; the ridges and treetops remaining above water seem to form an island, which has lost its original architectural function. YANG Shun-Fa adopts the form of Chinese ink painting in an elliptical shape, lowering the saturation and softening the image in a silent protest by nature. Through the contrast of disaster and poetry, the pronunciation of the series name in Taiwanese sounds like "Is Taiwan beautiful?", which leads the viewer to reflect on damage to the environment.
