Artwork Appreciation
HSU Yun-Shan hopes to find strength in paintings capable of imbuing spiritual peace. Yellow and White is an abstract composition of thin, long strokes of warm yellow repeated over and over again, spreading from the center and stacked upon each other like a blooming flower radiating its beauty in all directions. Each brushstroke of color serves as a projection of the artist’s inner emotions, with the final composition serving as material depictions of the artist’s 3 mental states. HSU Yun-Shan enjoys observing natural changes of light and shadow of the physical world, and uses simple colors and brushstrokes in order to create changing textures and complex elements that were then used as the medium that connects the artist to the entire universe.
