Artwork Appreciation
WU Chuan-Lun’s artworks are based on the current industrial and digital era and investigate the blurred boundaries between nature and civilization. Tools is an extension of the Debris series, the Debris representing the remains of various forces of destruction and discarded wastes. 3D software is used to construct parts of different tools, with special attention devoted to ergonomic handling. The finished model is then exported as an image provided on photographic paper. The seemingly operable tool is stripped of its contexts, and recreated as a virtual 3D image that forms the final Debris while symbolizing the process of creation. WU Chuan-Lun uses the language of digital media to investigate the relationship between civilization and nature, invoke physical sensations, and respond to the falsehood and superficiality of the digital age.
