Artwork Appreciation
WU Tung-Lung’s work uses elements of lines, areas, volumes, and spaces to investigate abstract representations of organic forms and symbols. Symbol-87 has a monotonous background with fragments of irregular shapes. The work is created not with bright colors, but a repeated overlap of strokes that generate a cool, flat, and handcrafted texture and color tone. The planar and lightweight 2D space portrayed in the work also creates a solid-like portrayal with surface tensions. WU Tung-Lung uses this simple yet orderly composition to create spatial depths, conveying an introverted yet rich emotions in this minimalist and pure arrangement of symbols and color tones.
