The work Sun shower depicts a Christmas tree ornament. A hand, seen along the yellow ribbon string above, holds the glass ball. Strands of light descend from top to bottom, shimmering with iridescent light on the glass shell, evoking the rainbows that are always visible during a sun shower. Artist Wang Liang-Yin casually splashed paint on his canvas before sketching out his work. The splashes of green in this painting come from that impromptu splashing. Once he formally began the work, he took control of things and covered it with pink, making the green a decorative accent. Extensive expanses of pink and rainbow colors create a sweet atmosphere, yet the spiky raindrops, the unusual red Christmas tree, and the fragile glass casing radiate a sense of paradox. Through the contrasting colors, beauty, and the sense of danger evoked by fragile objects, the artist attempts to convey his belief that even the most peaceful world can harbor hidden dangers.
