WANG Liang-Yin’s painting, Wedding Present, is one of the works from the series “Gifts and Dust”. The congratulatory decorative lightings from the Taiwanese folk culture are mainly her subjects of presentation. Inside the red-shelled and peach-shaped decorative lighting, there are pairs of birds and trees with bright flowers inside beautiful scenery. Red congratulatory words, "New Marriage", are attached to the glass cover. The decorative lightings are commonly seen in ordinary lives, showing their stereotypical imagination for happiness. The power plug in the picture is not connected, and the bright but mottled color creates a contrast with the supposedly happy image and the image of flowing desire. WANG Liang-Yin uses the decorative lighting a gift and a symbol for functionality, reflecting people’s desire for emotions and receiving recognition.
