The artist Liao Chi Yu focuses on the development of video art, and she is good at exploring life’s various delicate feelings by creating videos. Her video, Turtle, is set in time and place through the use of the hand-painted sets of old-fashioned photo studios, so they are mostly exotic or unrealistic scenes, used to create unique atmospheres. In these scenes blending fiction and reality, the main character uses songs and monologues to tell a mythical family history and his own personal fantasies. The film brings out an emotional life through a relaxed atmosphere and fantasy elements. Although one never see any real tortoise in the film, associations with the tortoise still run through the entire film in intangible symbols, narrative hints, and unreal reproductions of objects.
