LIAO Chi-Yu is inspired by the experience of shooting family portraits in an old-style studio. The shooting scenes that were popular in the studio in the 1980s reflect people's aspirations and beautiful imaginations for the future. The work Sanssouci Park begins with two fires in a woman's life: one at her home, and one after her death. All the memories fade away as the photos were burnt. Images and spoken words reveal the gap between dreams and reality, and romantic imagination seems to be a comfort to all cruel facts in the world. The images have a soothing function, even a fictional object can replace real life. The features and blind spots of the images are the core concern of LIAO Chi-Yu's reflection on contemporary visual culture.
