LIAO Chi-Yu is good at recording daily physical experiences, memories, and emotions with video. The work River depicts a parable of a young couple who travel for the most beautiful portrait photo. Through the opening, they are wearing wedding dresses in the storm, foreshadowing the missing perfect love. The indifference and tense atmosphere is in sharp contrast with the quiet daily life in the later section. LIAO Chi-Yu draws on the experience of shooting family portraits in an old-style studio to construct the plot. The couple re-visit places to pursue "real" landscape photography, while falling into "false" hand-painted scenery. Through the treacherous context of falsehood, the artist reflects on the relationship between contemporary people, images and memories.
