LIAO Chi-Yu’s works employs unique settings and role-playing techniques in order to simulate scenarios inspired by everyday activities. The Lucid Dreaming is a video that portrays a dream where the dreamer is aware that she is dreaming, and shows a bustling dinner table where food items and arrangements kept transforming to become the cuisine of different countries. The dress of the girl also changed along with the food, though her face kept being hidden by her actions. The video also constantly switches between full colored portrayals as well as black and white settings, creating an oddly surreal atmosphere. LIAO Chi-Yu used the surreal experience of lucid dreams in order to describe the conflicting sensations when everyday life, memories, and dreams were allowed to overlap.
