作品賞析
Lee Chi-Hsiang, who specializes in realistic painting, uses patterned glass as a kind of photographic lens, in order to change the appearance of the subject. Besides recording a scene, then, he also creates blurred, out-of-focus images, leaving more room for the viewer’s imagination. However, in MIT, in contrast to his usual depiction of real objects, he depicts a famous ink painting—Travelers among Mountains and Streams by the Northern Song artist Fan Kuan—as seen through patterned glass. The towering mountains, dense forests, and huge boulders of the painting reappear through the window, and the droplets from the waterfall seem to hit the glass. The depth-of-field effect caused by the patterned glass is enhanced, making the viewer feel as if he or she is looking through the window at the actual scene.
