作品賞析
The artist Wu Mei-Chi has been running scientific experiments on still life images in the past few years, using photography as a medium for exploring the various spatial possibilities of different materials. Deconstructing the image of the work in front of you, you can see that in front of the black background, there are three mainly orange objects wrapped in aluminum foil containers, which glitter with a brilliant, diamond-like light. The objects arranged in the space inevitably have a front-back relationship. In mathematics, we are used to defining three-dimensional space with the three axes X, Y, and Z, so that every object in the picture can be accurately converted into digital coordinates. This also explains the origin of Wu Mei-Chi’s titles for her artworks. “X” represents the real object itself as well as its mirror image. “Y” is the medium, which represents the changes of light and shadow. In the kinds of space she creates, where reality and fantasy mix, she focuses on recording the movements of light and shadow.
