When a traditional analog camera changes the negative film, the beginning of each negative film will leave incomplete marks on the photo paper because of incorrect exposure, these marks went missing once the digital camera came out. The Birthmarks by Simon CHANG is a set of 18 first photos preserved unintentionally, though its focus, aperture and shutter speed weren’t caliberated, the camera secretly recorded what happened like one’s birthmark, irregular lines symbolizing both the origin and the destiny, prefacing the next photo and indeed the true stories happening before it, it’s the most authentic and naked visual language that restores the secrets before photo number 001.
