Hunters from Afar

Simon CHANG has set foot in both artistic and commercial photography. After studying in the Czech Republic, he stayed in Europe and captured different states of life through documentary photography. Hunters from Afar is the first long-term photography project after Simon CHANG moved to Prague in 2003. He followed the hunters into the deep forest, capturing their moments of intense focus in work. He observed the hunters’ frozen fingers on the trigger under harsh weather conditions and the white breath smoke in steady rhythms in the endless snow. A group of hunters walking in the snow dressed in dark camouflage clothes is just like the delicate ink spots on the Chinese ink painting paper. Watching from afar, Simon CHANG captured the inspiration with photography and pondered on how he could explain the Eastern philosophy of the unity of universe and mankind to this group of rough Czech hunters.
