The photograph of Ralph Lee’s Desk is one of Isa HO’s series, Westbeth Project. Westbeth is an apartment located in New York’s Manhattan. In the 1970s, rooms were provided at low rent for artists all over the world to create artworks. The apartment became an incarnation of various cultures and histories, and the stories behind those artists move Isa HO deeply and relate to Taiwan, also carrying multi-cultural and historical questions. In this piece, HO presents the desk the American puppet artist, Ralph Lee used; instead of a portrait at a certain moment and angle, HO restores the story though the traces of life and space the artist used to live in, and enriches the story with more interpretations.
