作品賞析
Isa HO has long been paying attention to the issue of female identity and has created a unique image vocabulary using choreography and digital synthesis. In the work, Chocolate Cream+Peony Pavilion, one of women in the film is wearing traditional Chinese costumes, dancing “Peony Pavilion” in Kunqu, while the other is dancing to Chocolate Cream from a Korean dance group. Isa HO believes that we can see the dramatic changes in the new era from K-pop phenomenon. She adjusts the speed of the pop song and matches it with the dance moves from the Kunqu, connecting similar movements and storylines between the two tracks. In contrast, the transformation of Asian women's social roles is highlighted, with one concealing her inner world and desire and the other having the freedom to express her own body. Isa HO juxtaposes traditional opera with pop music, exploring the differences between the old and the new era and the relationship with patriarchy.
