作品賞析
Isa HO has long been paying attention to the issue of female identity and has created a unique image vocabulary using choreography and digital synthesis. Mahsuri-City is one of the works from the series My Peony Pavilion. She looks at the transformation of body consciousness for women in the rise of Korean pop music from the perspective of oriental culture. Three Malaysian women are wearing traditional costumes and dancing traditional dances. In contrast, there is a modern woman who is dressed sexily dancing Korean pop dance. The finger movements from the Malaysian women indicate that they are referring to the God, while the woman dancing to Korean pop music is referring to herself. By juxtaposing pop music with traditional opera, Isa HO highlights that Asian women are starting to have different perceptions regarding their own mind and body, facing themselves more honestly and enjoying being independent.
