The Sound from Far Away – Akiyoshi Cave

TSAI Kuen-Lin uses the plastic water pipes that are commonly seen in life as a medium for creation. The work, The Sound from Far Away-Akiyoshi Cave, is a sound sculpture device made by connecting plastic water pipes to each other. Inside the plastic tube, the sounds of water droplets and the flowing river in the stalactite cave of Akiyoshidai in Japan was recorded. The gray color symbolizes the local elements – lime and pearl white. The curvy shape of the plastic tube also represents a sound path from somewhere far away. By conducting field surveys in different cities, TSAI Kuen-Lin screens out the sounds, colors, and materials that have cultural meanings and can represent the city or region. He hopes to guide the viewers to experience different cities in the world using different sensory experiences.
