TSAI Kuen-Lin’s The Sound from Far Away – Cleveland is a sculpture created using sound and plastic pipes. Sound recordings from different places, including an engine explosion of a military aircraft performance in the American city of Cleveland, are conveyed through these plastic water pipes. The work attempts to reflect upon the contradictions and imbalance between medical systems and military development of the city. The base constructed with wooden boards represent abandoned civilian housing, while the shape constructed by the plastic pipes is based on the logo of the Cleveland medical center and symbolizes the path of faraway sounds. TSAI Kuen-Lin has introduced sounds from other places, providing a visual and audio experience for the audience to experience cities located in another place of the world.
