TSAI Meng-Chang often uses objects and events from everyday life and his surroundings as his creative inspiration and themes. Factories constructed using corrugated metal sheets, ship containers in port, and horizons dominated by chimney stacks are part of the major theme of his works. Chin-Hua presents a familiar urban street in Taiwan recreated using photo-realistic techniques. The metal rolling doors are covered with grease marks after long periods of neglectful maintenance, while the corrugated metal walls exhibit years of use and bear marks of repeated reconstruction. The closely shut metal sheets heighten the cold and rigid isolation of the building, depriving it of human presence or warmth. TSAI Meng-Chang illustrates facets of urban life for the purpose of identifying personal solace and means of making a living.
