PENG Hsien-Hsiang uses a set of abstract landscape painting vocabulary to focus on the very nature of humanity and life. “Phase Look” comprises two canvases interacting with each other, with one depicted in bright tones while the other is given darker tones. Subsumed brushstrokes and lines construct the texture of the background like an ephemeral beam of light. The pale colored canvas, on the other hand, shows undulating mountains and what appears to be a column of smoke rising straight into the sky. The landscape paintings of PENG Hsien-Hsiang represent more than just fantasies of natural vistas and lands, but also an artificial environment where people can project themselves into, with abstract mountain forms representing the pure state of his inner mind.
