In PENG Hsien-Hsiang’s A Dream, brown hills extend inexorably into the distance. An abstract white object, like a wisp of smoke, rises slowly from a gap in the background, condensed and frozen. When creating this piece, Peng didn’t make a preliminary outline; instead, he created the entire scene from scratch with his brush in one go, seizing upon the intuition and perception of his inner being as he strove to convey simple, primitive yet elegant meaning through succinct, abstract artistic terms.
