Artist PENG Hsien-Hsiang’s paintings put emphasis on the presentation of texture and the usage of materials. He tries to present the self-dispersal and the fragmentation of memory and realistic time and space through his creation. In Night Landscape series, he makes the handmade paper board with newspaper pulp and composes the contents of the painting with the various texture of each paper board. The work Night Landscape – Earth’s Eye combines materials such as ink, toner, and watercolor and creates the ancient night landscape in several ways such as scribbling, rubbing, and scrubbing. In the work, a white lighting circle slides into the center of the image and looks like a meteor dropping from the air to the ground. It is embedded in the land and forms a bright eye. The work creates a heavy, tranquil, and friendly feeling of isolation. Through the series of creation, the artist reviews his own mental emotions as the reflection upon the confrontation against the realistic existence.
