HUANG Chin-Hua’s ink paintings are not restricted to traditional rules, and instead embark upon a path between freedom and convention to create works that convey personal experiences and emotions. Big Stone Series No. 21 features a stone against a clean background. The artist devoted her entire effort to perfecting this stone, where each of the countless thread-like strokes have been applied in a calligraphic style, overlapping to form formations that eventually come together to create a hard boulder composed of a rich yet soft texture. HUANG Chin-Hua uses artistic creation to present her inner will, with the overlapping brush strokes representing the aspects of time and patience. The conflicting harmony of soft and hard textures represent the transformation of spirit and energy. The artist uses the very process of creation to reforge her willpower and rebirth with a new form.
