HUANG Chin-Hua paints stones, using fine outlining brushes and gentle brushstrokes to illustrate overlapping circles that gradually form the smoothened texture of hard mountain stones. Big Stone No. 11 depicts the form of the stone that includes the atmosphere, serenity, and gravity of the universe and natural forested landscapes with micro- and macro-scopic visions. The simple stone undergoes a metamorphosis into a temporal and spiritual realm, becoming an ocean that includes a mixture of innumerable landscapes that symbolizes the artist’s inner state of mind. HUANG Chin-Hua’s works emphasize the aspects of accumulation, overlapping, and repetition, condensing the entire cosmos through the sheer power of will in order to portray the intangible and underlying vibe of the universe. This work serves as a metaphor for human life where long years of experiences accumulate to form our current state of mind.
