KANG Tian-Wang creates works of art based upon natural landscapes in Taiwan, which incorporated religious inspirations and fantasies in order to portray the surreal vision of living beings. Natural elements were integrated with the artist’s knowledge about life inspired by his artistic training and Buddhism, creating works that celebrate the beauty of the lands. The Transcendence of Self shows 3 massive and lush trees twining with each other that represent the force of life and spirit. A strange-looking rock is shown covered by a beautiful mantle of blooming flowers. The butterfly in the center of the composition seems to be attracted by the beauty offered by the landscape, landing on the tip of the lush crown of a tree.
