CHANG Che-Jung’s photographic works focus on female figures placed in unique settings. Tea Time depicts a Japanese tea room. The foreground is scattered with books, while a Shanshui painting hangs at the back wall. A lady pours tea in the middle of composition, though her face is replaced by a tablet depicting a traditional illustration of a female face. To CHANG Che-Jung, people in ancient times have attempted to describe the future using written texts. In the modern era, however, the world is observed and imagined through television, computer, and cellphone screens. In essence, people sought emotional solace either through written books or digital displays.
