Artwork Appreciation
In his Parrot Man series, artist CHANG Teng-Yuan proposes an imaginary future vision of the world. He imagines a volcanic eruption bringing about the end of the world, covering the Earth’s surface with volcanic mud. Thousands of years later, alien parrot men come to Earth to conduct an archaeological dig.
In CHANG’s imagination, the parrot men are trying to decipher the messages left behind in the ruins. They search for clues among the unearthed artifacts, and use their limited resources to interpret the meanings and purposes of these objects from thousands of years gone by.
From this interesting new angle, CHANG reinterprets and adds new meanings to many things that have already been given specific meanings, and thus pokes fun at the changing interpretation of the nature of things with the passage of time.
