Artwork Appreciation
WU Wen-Cheng has dispensed with figurative approaches in order to investigate the true nature of drawing.
The Other Side 6 shows lines of various colors that appear like electrical currents dashing through dense circuitry displayed on the canvas. These lines are sometimes geometrically arranged, but are chaotically intertwined like a confused mind in other areas. Overlapping these lines would be different color patches splashed about in automatist techniques that collide with one another. The result is a collage of lines and color patches together generate electric shock-like effects among the viewers. The artist has employed liquid paint in order to recreate the innermost sensations and the energies experienced in sudden awakenings, giving a rich tapestry brimming with vitality and power.
