Artwork Appreciation
CHEN Shao-Yen’s artworks of urban landscapes are connected to the experiences from an urban lifestyle. Mapping is an image of a midnight downpour. The crisscrossing and twisted lines represent raindrops falling rapidly to the ground, while drops of water seem to infiltrate every corner and crevice of the building. People tend to dislike rain, but the occasional shower provides a welcoming sense of coolness that washes away vexing thoughts. CHEN Shao-Yen employed the scene of urban rain to communicate the fickle and changing nature of urban space, city climate, and personal feelings.
