Artwork Appreciation
HSU Ming-Ren uses self-made charcoal pencils and scrap papers to give his works a true hand-crafted feel. Landscapes drawn from memories are broken down, re-assembled, and transformed into panels of mysterious spiritual prose. Scenery – Condition
In Scenery – Condition 08, HSU Ming-Ren believes that his artwork refers to an emotional state achieved through the process of creation. Under this status, all information captured is concerned with the landscape. HSU Ming-Ren has used a piece of rough paper and rubbed it back and force to gather charcoal dust, using accumulated layers and tones to reconstruct the weather-beaten marks of old-age and experience.
HSU Ming-Ren is not simply producing a piece of landscape art. He is bearing silent witness of the stages of life.
