Artwork Appreciation
The artist Hsu Ming-Jen developed his “Landscape” series hoping to use the techniques of abstraction to expand the viewing possibilities of landscapes. He developed these compositions first from dyestuff, using the colors to shape things, constantly adding colors over the paper pulp, and decomposing the concrete, visible scenes. “Covering” also symbolizes the erasure of time. Scenery – Layer 10 continues the creative line of “gazing and imagination.” Hsu Ming-Jen chiseled the paper pulp to destroy the smooth surface, reshape it, and give it a different texture; he also smeared various blocks of color over the surface and let the white paint flow over it. In this way, a special abstract composition was formed. Although viewers cannot see any specific image here, they can associate colors and shapes, they may realize the meaning of “landscape.”
