Artwork Appreciation
Artist HUANG Wei-Min was born in Puli, a beautiful town where the forces of development and environmentalism have been at loggerheads for years. Her work is affected by this, examining human development and the ecology of the land, as well as the coexistent relationship of man and nature. In No. 6, far off in the distance in this staid, tranquil scene, a wooded mountain has mutated into a quietly lurking monster. A long and winding road leads to the monster’s mouth and into its body. Huang is telling us that nature seemingly bears human needs and greed with silence and grace, but as damage accumulates over a long time, nature will retaliate one day with the ferocity of a wild beast.
