Artwork Appreciation
Artist Huang Wei-Min was born in Puli, Nantou County. In this beautiful town, issues of land development and environmental protection continue to be fiercely debated. Her works are influenced by this, and mainly focus on ecology of the land, human development, and the coexistence of nature and men.
For food and survival, and entertainment and recreation, men continue to develop higher into the mountains and deeper into the forests, opening tunnels and building highways, as if slitting the nature over and over again. In Huang Wei-Min’s paintings, mountains and forests transform into monsters, seemingly quiet and gentle, burdening the needs and greed of men. However, having been hurt over time, these monsters are now showing capability to fight back.
