Artist Hung Yu-Hao’s work, Body Scenery I, combines the virtual and real to create images centering on the theme of patients with spinal muscular atrophy. These patients gradually lose the ability to control their bodies due to systemic muscle atrophy and weakness. Hung used 3D scanning technology to capture one patient’s daily movements, such as grasping a water cup or swiping a mobile phone, and obtain “point cloud data” and 3D models in the form of point data. He then transformed these movements into images to depict a body landscape. The composition is layered, with overlapping images of the body model and of the point clouds that flow and fall continuously, in order to form an image of an unbroken mountain landscape. The point clouds falling downward in the darkness represent the time and the body that the patient is gradually losing. It forms a daily scene, like climbing a steep mountain.
